Big Give Green Match Campaign Gives Hampshire Hedge Project a Fundraising Boost
CPRE Hampshire is delighted to share the success of the Big Give Green Match fundraising campaign, which saw donations doubled to support the growth of the Hampshire Hedge.
In just a week, CPRE Hampshire raised over £10,000 to support an ambitious nature recovery project, thanks to the incredible generosity of donors. Upon completion, the Hampshire Hedge will create a nature recovery corridor of hedgerows, connecting the two National Parks in Hampshire.
The hedgerow will wind its way through the central heart of Hampshire parishes and link woodlands, meadows, local nature reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs); to connect the South Downs National Park and the New Forest National Park.
The new nature recovery corridor will help boost biodiversity, capture carbon, improve food production and enhance the rural economy.
Alison Talbot, Operations Manager at CPRE Hampshire tells us more:
“At CPRE Hampshire, we strive to create a thriving countryside that benefits people, nature, and wildlife. But we can only help hedgerows flourish when people support our work, so campaigns like the Big Give Green Match campaign are vital to ensure that our work can continue and that hedgerows remain an important part of the UK landscape. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and helped us to exceed the fundraising target.”
A key focus of the Hampshire Hedge project is to provide training in traditional hedge-laying skills, ensuring that Hampshire’s network of hedgerows thrives for generations to come. Through the dedication of farmers, land managers, communities, schools, colleges, and volunteers, over 15km of new hedgerows will be planted over a 3-year period.
“After a successful launch, we are thrilled to progress the Hampshire Hedge project into its second year with the continued fundraising support that will drive the project forward. Every donation will contribute to the restoration or planting of new hedgerows, enriching the local landscapes and providing valuable training in traditional hedge laying for land managers and volunteers” continues Alison.
CPRE Hampshire extends its heartfelt thanks to the community for supporting their mission to create Hampshire’s biggest nature corridor. Together, they are making a real difference to the environment and creating a more sustainable future for Hampshire.
