Volunteer to support Hampshire’s hedgerows
Help restore Hampshire’s hedgerows and create vital links for wildlife. Join CPRE Hampshire’s volunteers to plant, restore and care for hedgerows across our project area, connecting important landscapes and supporting nature.

Where you will be based
Planting sessions will take place across the project area, helping to connect the New Forest National Park, Cranborne Chase National Landscape, South Downs National Park and North Wessex Downs.
Upcoming hedgerow planting sessions
Sessions usually run from 10am to 3pm.
Planting locations are still to be confirmed. We’ll send joining instructions and location details closer to each session.

About volunteering
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking to build a team of volunteers to enhance the quality of the landscape.
You’ll join a group of enthusiastic volunteers helping to carry out a range of tasks to support hedgerow restoration, such as hedge-laying, ground clearance and tree planting. There may also be surveying and general conservation tasks to help restore and monitor the wildlife and landscape value of the countryside.
Through volunteering with us you, will be helping to look after our fantastic countryside and ensuring the success of this vital project for CPRE Hampshire.
Volunteers must be aged 16 or over, or be accompanied by an adult.
What you will be doing
- Practical, hands-on tasks e.g. clearance, digging, planting, hedge laying
- Monitoring and surveying of existing hedgerows to assess “hedgerow health”
- Biodiversity monitoring through ecological surveys of hedgerows before and after enhancement
- Volunteering alongside others as part of a team
- Representing CPRE Hampshire to the local community who see work taking place
Skills and requirements
- A keen interest in the countryside and environmental skills
- The ability to undertake moderate physical activity
- Willingness to follow health and safety guidance, including use of tools and personal protective equipment
- A flexible approach to volunteering availability as tasks will be on various days/times
- Ability to make your own way to and from the task site

Why our hedgerows matter
Hedgerows are vital habitats for birds, insects, butterflies and small mammals. They help connect wildlife populations, support biodiversity, reduce soil erosion and flooding, and contribute to healthier soils and a more resilient landscape.
Through the Hampshire Hedgerow Project, we’re working with local volunteers to plant new hedgerows, restore existing ones and improve connections between important landscapes. Together, we can help wildlife thrive while supporting the countryside and the communities that depend on it.
