We Support Landowners to Plant More Hedges

Let’s work together to create greener, more connected landscapes that benefits both wildlife and agriculture
As part of our Hampshire Hedge initiative, we are excited to collaborate with landowners to expand the hedgerow network and enhance connectivity between the South Downs National Park and New Forest National Park.
Hedgerows offer numerous benefits:
- Provide shade and shelter for livestock: Hedgerows create a natural barrier against harsh weather, offering protection and comfort to animals.
- Reduce soil erosion: The roots of hedgerow plants help to stabilize the soil, preventing erosion and maintaining soil health.
- Boost biodiversity: Hedgerows support a wide variety of plant and animal species, contributing to a richer and more diverse ecosystem.
- Create habitats for key UK species: Many birds, insects, and small mammals rely on hedgerows for nesting, foraging, and shelter.
Key project areas include:
- Copythorne
- Romsey
- Ampfield
- Hursley
- Compton
- Olivers Battery
If you are outside of this area, please still get in touch as our project boundaries are not fixed.

Together we can help Hampshire’s hedgerows flourish
We understand that managing hedgerows can be particularly tough for landowners given the many responsibilities they handle. However, with our assistance, series of talks, volunteer support, and expertise in effective management, we’re helping landowners improve and manage their hedgerows more effectively. Check out our recent interview with local New Forest landowners, Tim and Mary, to learn how we’ve been helping them nurture the hedgerows on their farm.
