IBM Hursley: A Commitment to Green Growth
Supporting the growth of the Hampshire Hedge
In the spring of 2024, IBM Hursley embarked on a mission to support the Hampshire Hedge project, an ambitious initiative by CPRE Hampshire. The project aims to connect the South Downs National Park and the New Forest National Park with a nature recovery corridor of hedgerow. This corridor winds through central Hampshire, linking woodlands, meadows, local nature reserves, and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs).
The first planting day, held on 7th March 2024, was a resounding success. Over 80 enthusiastic IBM staff members gathered to plant more than 400 meters of new hedging. The chosen location was ideal, linking adjacent sites and contributing significantly to the project’s planting targets.
Fast forward to 13th March 2025, and IBM Hursley returned for the second year running to support the growth of the Hampshire Hedge. This time, 30 committed IBM employees joined forces to plant an additional 350 meters of hedgerow. Their efforts continued to build on the previous year’s success, further connecting wildlife habitats and contributing to the project’s ambitious goals.
IBM’s commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 is a significant part of their sustainability strategy. The team at IBM Hursley is taking a multi-faceted approach to this journey to carbon neutrality by carbon-neutralizing facilities, following green operating procedures, and deploying intelligent automation. Our work to restore Hampshire’s hedgerows aligns with their broader environmental goals.
