CPRE Hampshire attends an Exciting Eco Day at Walhampton School

23rd October 2024

On Tuesday 8th October, CPRE Hampshire’s Ellie (Hedgerow Project Manager) and Yolande (Assistant Hedgerow Project Officer), attended Walhampton Preparatory School’s Eco Day, to inspire students and raise awareness about hedgerows. The day was a great success and showcased an array of conservation projects.

Ellie and Yolande engaged students through conversations about hedgerows and captivating hedgerow activities. Discussions were had about hedgerow flora and fauna, why cows need hedgerows to control stress levels – thus aiding in milk production, and how bats forage for invertebrates along the hedge.

'It was fantastic to hear what the students already knew about hedgerow habitats and help expand on that knowledge. The younger students were particularly interested in the animals which call hedges their home and took great pleasure in colouring in their chosen hedgerow animals. It’s lovely to see young people inspired by hedgerows, in this way.'
Yolande, Assistant Hedgerow Project Officer

This event aided CPRE Hampshire’s Hampshire Hedge Project in reaching its goal to work with 10 schools this year, and to raise awareness about hedgerows within the community.
