Student Spotlight: Gaining Valuable Experience with CPRE Hampshire
For the second year running we have welcomed students from the Wildlife Conservation and Ecology course at the University of Sparsholt to join our hedgerow team for their work placements.
About Alice
Alice is a first year student at Sparsholt University Centre studying Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation. Her course aims to develop expertise in understanding and evaluating the latest science in global planetary change, natural resource management, ecosystem services, wildlife conservation, and sustainability, all within the framework of applied ecological science. As part of the curriculum, students are required to gain industrial experience, which is where we come in.
Speaking of her motivation, Alice tells us “Coming from a farm in the highlands and working as a gardener with my mother, I’ve always been interested in working outdoors with the environment so CPRE Hampshire is a great opportunity for me to explore working with a charity organisation and experiencing professional projects and learning what goes into them.”
Alice’s Experience
In her own words, Alice tells us about her experience supporting some of our projects to enhance the Hampshire countryside.
“After working with CPRE Hampshire for three weeks, it has been an amazing learning experience. Its been very interesting to learn about all the work that goes on to plan and execute each project, including planting, hedge laying and working with schools and scouts. Even when it was challenging, learning the technical aspects of hedge laying and the physical effort needed, it’s been a really encouraging experience working with CPRE Hampshire and all of the volunteers doing such positive work for the environment. I hope to continue volunteering with CPRE Hampshire in the future and continue learning from all of the wonderful people involved.”
