Our CPRE North Hants District Group Autumn Supper was held on Friday 7th October and deemed another convivial evening with friends and members.

We were delighted to welcome Stacey Hedges, the owner and brains behind the Hampshire Cheese Company which produces two world-class soft cheeses; Tunworth and Winslade. These Award Winning cheeses are known and used internationally by some of world’s best chefs.

Stacey provided a very interesting insight into how her North Hampshire business started in her farmhouse kitchen and explained the skills involved with the many labour intensive processes connected with making handmade cheese. Working closely with one local dairy farmer, his cows provide all the milk for the cheeses. She explained the importance of the quality of the milk, yield required and how the diet for the cows is ‘tuned like a fine engine’. Stacey also talked about her hopes to go forward with expansion and develop a third cheese which would provide further work for local people.

Our tasty meal; main course prepared by Suki Blofeld, a local caterer, was followed by these wonderful cheeses and all accompanied by good wines from Mark Bedford of Cavsite.
