Magnificent Meadows Project Launch
A magnificent evening on Tuesday 29th April saw the launch of our Magnificent Meadows project 2025.
Local ecologist Rachel Remnant, from Land Lore Consulting, met local people and project partners at All Saints Church in Highcliffe, Winchester to unveil our exciting Magnificent Meadow plans for 2025. The project follows on from the success of the 2024 pilot project.
As a countryside charity, we believe accessible meadows are essential for connecting people with nature right on their doorstep.
Rachel explains, “In the chalk-rich landscapes of South Winchester, we’re bringing people together to reconnect with nature and one another. Building on the energy and insights from our 2024 pilot project, we’re launching a vibrant summer programme in 2025 that celebrates and protects the chalk meadow ecosystems right on our doorsteps.”
Rachel also gave a talk about the ‘Meadows on the Edge’ of Winchester stressing how important they are as stepping stones for local wildlife.
Bar End and Highcliffe have over 16 meadow sites ranging from a small meadow site created next to Gordon Avenue Play Area through to the Cowslip Field, a registered SINC (Site Important for Nature Conservation), right next to St Catherine’s Park & Ride. They offer a huge opportunity to create spaces where both nature and the community can thrive.
An evening stroll, taking in some of the meadow sites and enjoying a magnificent display of cowslips concluded the launch event.
Magnificent Meadows proudly supports the Big Chalk Partnership’s vision to create vibrant, nature-rich chalk and limestone landscapes that benefit everyone.
