Family fun at the CPRE's Countryside Day

The Campaign to Protect Rural England's first ever Countryside Day was a resounding success with many people visiting the fields set aside at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on Sunday 11th May. All generations, from pensioners, adults, teenagers and children thoroughly enjoyed the activities on offer.

The event was packed with countryside activities available on the day. Children enjoyed learning to juggle with the Portsmouth Jugglers, taking part in orienteering courses with Southampton Orienteering, bike riding with Cycle Touring Club and football competitions. FalconHigh gave a falcon display, where children took part in flying and handling the birds of prey. CPRE Hampshire was supported by the Environment Agency, RSPB, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust amongst others.

The children's activities tent organised by CPRE's volunteers was one of the most successful, with children making their own 'trash fashion' hats from rubbish, potting up seeds and taking part in a quiz.

Becky French of CPRE Hampshire, organiser said:

"We are very grateful to all the organisations and volunteers who helped make the event a success. Families and children had a wonderful time and I hope more people will come and join us next time. CPRE needs support from new members and volunteers for running events and future campaigns. If anybody would like more information, please telephone 01962 843655."
