Forest Knights and fly-fishing fun at CPRE's Countryside Day

Plans are taking shape for a new 'Countryside Day' being organised for young people and families by the Campaign to Protect Rural England in Hampshire. It will take place on Sunday, 11th May from 11.30 to 4.00pm at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield.

The line-up includes 'Forest Knights', a wilderness skills specialist who will encourage children's participation in learning how to fend for themselves out of doors. Activities include wood-carving and fire-making.

Luke the juggler The Environment Agency will hold fly-fishing demonstrations before letting people have a go themselves and Portsmouth Jugglers are set to give regular displays and hands-on workshops throughout the day.

If you manage to find your way to CPRE's Countryside Day, you will have another challenge laid down by Southampton Orienteering who are setting a course up in the park, complete with electronic orienteering equipment.

Other things to look out for are the Cycling Touring Club and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. Hampshire Tourism and Hampshire Outdoor Services will give out information about trails and other activities to do in the countryside this summer. There is also a special competition to win a family ticket prize worth £90 with "Go Ape" high-wire adventure.

Further 'hands-on' activities and experiences are being organised. This is planned to be a fun day out for all the family as well as showing people how to get more involved with the countryside at a local level.
