The proofs of evidence on the Western Weald are delivered

A mass of detailed evidence to support the inclusion of the Western Weald in the South Downs National Park has been researched, written, printed and collated for delivery to the Inspector of the South Downs National Park inquiry.

Nine main South Downs Campaign proofs have been prepared that deal with different aspects in support of the inclusion of the Western Weald within Hampshire, for example the park boundary, recreation, the settlements of Petersfield and Liss, Woolmer Forest and the construction of the A3. There are also proofs covering Sussex settlements, agriculture and the future of the Weald if it were to be outside the new national park.

On Monday, the final proofs were compiled and finalised, ready for delivery to the Inspector on Tuesday. Margaret Paren, of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, who is also vice chairman of the South Downs Campaign, met up with team members Jacquetta Fewster, director of the South Downs Society, and Andrea Mann, assistant clerk at Liss Parish Council, to put the finishing touches to the documents.

Margaret Paren said:

"Hundreds of people have been involved in the production in one way or another and we're grateful to everyone for their help at every level."

Liss is a member of the South Downs Campaign, along with many of the other affected parish and town councils in the Western Weald.
