Walks and Talks Programme starts with walk around Old Portsmouth

CPRE begins its 2008 'walks and talks programme' with a guided walk around Old Portsmouth.

The Hampshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England is beginning its 2008 'Countryside Walks and Talks' programme with a guided walk around the seafront area of Old Portsmouth on Thursday 3rd April. Guided by local CPRE members the tour will look at the ancient buildings and events that have shaped the historic naval city.

The tour starts at 10.30am, meeting at the 'Point' on Spice Island, next to Spice Island Inn in the Old City, taking a look at the historic landmarks, buildings and open spaces. It then follows the waterfront, through the cathedral and up to the high street, looking at the some of the many events that have shaped the old city. A two-course lunch with coffee will be available at around £10, from the American Bar at the end of the walk (this is optional).

Becky French of CPRE Hampshire said:

"This is a really unusual walk for CPRE, as it looks at the historic urban environment of a city. This year we have tried hard to offer a varied programme and I think this walk starts our programme well. We hope that many more members and non-members will join us this year."

£4 for members and £6 for non-members, directions will be supplied upon request. For all enquiries please contact Becky French at info@cprehampshire.org.uk or alternatively on 01962 843655.
