CPRE Hampshire comment on countryside clutter

Further to today's press release: Call To Clear Countryside Clutter led by CPRE and RAC Foundation, CPRE Hampshire's chairman, Christopher Napier, gave the following additional comment:

"We concur wholeheartedly with the points made in the national press release issued jointly today by the RAC Foundation and the CPRE. We would like to draw your attention to CPRE's document The Principles of Road Signage in Rural Areas, on which we have been building our campaign against excessive road clutter in Hampshire."

"We are grateful to Hampshire County Council for its enthusiastic approach to this campaign. The County Council is working hard to bring to fruition a pilot project on the A32 in Hampshire. CPRE campaigners met with the County Council representatives last week, who have now committed to preparing new guidelines for the whole county at the conclusion of the A32 pilot project. The A32 audit is a first step - we hope to see the project then roll out across the county, at which stage we should start seeing improvements to benefit road users and recreate the tranquillity and beauty of our country roads."

Christopher Napier, Chairman, CPRE Hampshire;
Vice Chairman, CPRE (2006).
