Loving the Countryside with CPRE Hampshire

Each year CPRE Hampshire organises a number of trips and events across the county for its members, such as the very popular and successful educational walks at Tichbourne and Southwick Estates earlier in the year. Currently CPRE Hampshire is organising a new programme of managed and informative trips for 2007 which its members will have priority to attend. These events will provide the opportunity for CPRE members to learn about the environment, the threats to it, and how they can help to protect it. Visits and walks currently being arranged include a visit to Broughton Water Buffalo Farm on 27th September, a guided walk in Alice Holt Forest on 1st November, a spring walk on the Southwick Estate on 10th March, a springtime "Ramble with a Ranger" in the New Forest on 26th April, and a visit and guided tour of the Carvers Hill Wild Flower Farm near Marlborough on 21st June. There are also plans for guided walks on the Isle of Wight, further visits to recycling plants and a variety of other events across the different districts.

Being a member of CPRE Hampshire does not only mean helping to protect the countryside and supporting serious campaign issues; members can also enjoy getting involved with fundraising and promotional events that provide a social and educational experience. CPRE Hampshire is keen to inform its members about what is happening in the countryside, and seeks to educate people on rural issues in an enjoyable way. For these reasons Pam Mason, CPRE Hampshire's Administrator, believes it is very important to organise enjoyable and informative days out for its members to attend, by taking advantage of the diversity of landscapes that can be found within the county from coastal plains, to managed woodland and chalk downlands.

Pam Mason stated:

"Visiting or living in the countryside is a pleasure and a privilege, especially when the flowers and wildlife are in abundance. But how long will this last? It is becoming increasingly more difficult to protect our countryside from urban sprawl and unsightly developments. It is impossible to imagine Hampshire or England without its green fields, rolling hills, woodlands and birdcalls, but we just cannot guarantee that they will be around forever. CPRE Hampshire is a voice for everyone who wishes future generations to know the beauty of our countryside. If you would like to make this a reality, please lend your support as our strength is in our membership. The number of members gives us authority, and the work and expertise of our members who volunteer, gives us success".
