The Rural Affairs Group

In the Group's work on rural matters, our main concern is with factors that influence the beauty and diversity of our countryside and the health of rural communities. We are deeply concerned to support farmers, for without a prosperous farming sector there is little hope that the countryside will be well maintained. We strongly support local foods, which are good for farmers, consumers and the countryside. Working with other like-minded organisations we encourage good provision of services in rural communities, affordable housing where it is needed for local people, and a healthy rural economy.

Our chief campaigning interests in Hampshire are:

  • Led by our national President, Bill Bryson, we are mounting a campaign to reduce the fly-tipping and litter which despoils our countryside
  • Working with Hampshire County Council on rural service delivery and the rural economy
  • Working with Hampshire County Council, Parish Councils and Womens Institute on fly-tipping and litter
  • Sponsoring the Hampshire Life Food & Drink Awards.
