South Hampshire Group Report 2006

South & Solent District Group

When the Caretaker Chairman, Maggie Cole, stood down in 2005, there was some hope that the CPRE-led formation of SHUV (South Hampshire's Unheard Voices) would lead to a re-invention of this District Group, to actively campaign on the issues which the South East Plan will inevitably bring to this region of Hampshire. To date, this has not happened, and we are making another appeal for volunteers to help us with our campaigning work in this area.

What is certain is that South Hampshire will have to accommodate a large number of new houses, and probably two new towns, with associated infrastructure, over the next twenty years. If any semblance of countryside is to be maintained in the sub-region, CPRE needs to be actively involved locally in how and where development takes place on the ground. We also need to ensure it is of a high standard and the adverse impact on the quality of life of current residents in minimised.
