New Forest and Southampton District Group

Despite various appeals and requests, the New Forest District Group has been unsuccessful in recruiting new committee members, and consequently is still without a Chairman and Secretary. The essential administration work is currently being dealt with from the Branch (county) Office, with advice and support from the Vice Chairman, David Addison - who is also dealing with any Planning issues that arise in the area - and the Treasurer Tony Fessler.

We have worked hard to try and raise our profile in the area, not least by organising an 'out of season' visit to Exbury Gardens, and very recently a walk and talk at Keyhaven Yacht Club, both of which were very enjoyable events.

The Branch Chairman of CPRE Hampshire, Christopher Napier, has expressed concern about the threats to the areas of New Forest District outside the National Park boundary - especially the Waterside, which is now within the South Hampshire sub-region where major development is planned. CPRE needs at least to be involved locally in the development of the new Local Development Frameworks, which will define where development goes on the ground and the planning policies for the next 20 years. This makes it even more essential that we have the support of our members in this area, and some active volunteers are urgently required to keep this group going.
