Proposed new figures for ‘housing need’ are set to have a significant impact on Hampshire, and could put at risk the vital role of protecting the countryside. This is the view of the major countryside protection organisation in the county,the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Hampshire.

CPRE’s (Campaign to Protect Rural England) North East Hampshire District Group has reviewed Hart District Council’s Draft Local Plan: Strategy and Sites, in the context of relevant policies to protect, promote and enhance the area’s towns, villages and countryside. It says that the countryside’s intrinsic value to quality of life, to farming, biodiversity, the economy and to landscape must be reviewed in the current Plan.

The Hampshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has published its manifesto for the 2017 General Election, ‘Stand up for the countryside’. It calls on all parliamentary candidates to support policies that will protect and enhance rural areas, ensuring a countryside for current and future generations to benefit from and enjoy.
