Open Garden Fundraising event - Sunday 1st July 2007
by Pam Mason On Sunday 1st July, The Earl and Countess of Portsmouth are very kindly allowing CPRE Hampshire to run an 'Open Garden' event at Farleigh House, Farleigh Wallop, from 11am - 4pm. Situated approx halfway between junctions 6 and 7 of the M3, and barely 5 miles from the outskirts of Basingstoke, this beautiful house and 10 acre garden is set amongst stunning countryside. There is both a wild rose and a cultivated rose garden, a Potager (plant and vegetable garden), a large glasshouse, a nut tree walk, an orchard, a pond garden, a lake, plenty of beautiful walks and vistas to admire, and some stunning statuary to discover within the grounds. The glasshouse expert Lisa Rawley, who has won several Gold Medals at Chelsea with her glasshouse plants, will be on hand to talk about the beautiful glasshouse exhibits, and to give general advice on any problems you may have in your greenhouse - she will even identify your greenhouse 'bugs' for you, providing they are brought to her in secure containers! The Head Gardener Andrew Woolley will also be on hand for guided tours of the gardens. There will be a variety of produce stalls, including several local nurseries and plant stalls, and volunteers from the Mary Rose Trust will be walking around in Tudor Costumes, generally adding to the ambience of the day and handing out information on the Trust's work. CPRE volunteers will be selling tea and cakes, and those who have been to previous CPRE Open Gardens will know what excellent cake bakers we have in our midst! Entrance £3 adults, under 12's free Note for non-members: If you join CPRE on the day by Direct Debit, you will receive a free cup of tea and slice of cake! Volunteers needed: if you would like to be involved in the running of this event on the day, please contact Branch office and we will be very glad to hear from you. If you are able to donate a cake for our refreshment stall at this event, please let us know, all donations will be very well received. See also the poster (PDF file - 39K) for this event.
