  Results of CPRE Hampshire Transport Survey 2004

317 questionnaires were sent to parish councils, amenity societies and associations across Hampshire. At the date of this analysis (15 November 2004) 165 completed responses had been received, giving an excellent overall response rate of over 52%.

Results

1. All villages in Hampshire should have a speed limit of 30 mph
80% agreed, 12% neither agreed nor disagreed, 8% disagreed
CPRE Position: All villages should have 30 mph limits

2. There should be more 20 mph limits in village centres
64% agreed, 19% neither agreed nor disagreed, 17% disagreed
CPRE Position: That village centres should have 20 mph limits where residents want one

3. People in our area feel disadvantaged by a lack of public transport at a time when they need it
45% agreed, 36% neither agreed nor disagreed, 19% disagreed
CPRE Position: Demand led schemes will better meet transport needs and tempt some people out of their cars

4. It is unsafe for ramblers, riders, cyclists and pedestrians to use rural routes in our area
62% agreed, 20% neither agreed nor disagreed, 18% disagreed
CPRE Position: Access to the countryside other than by car is a key concern of CPRE

5. There should be improved provision for cycling, by way of cycle lanes
38% agreed, 24% neither agreed nor disagreed, 38% disagreed
CPRE Position: CPRE advocates the provision of more cycle routes

6. It is more appropriate within the countryside that cycle lanes are indicated by road markings alone, and without blue signs
55% agreed, 21% neither agreed nor disagreed, 24% disagreed
CPRE Position: Road markings and traditional (non-blue) signs should be used on cycle routes in the countryside.

7. Some lanes in our area should become 'quiet lanes'
53% agreed, 28% neither agreed nor disagreed, 19% disagreed
CPRE Position: CPRE has advocated the use of 'quiet lanes' for some years, with success in many counties
