Litter: A Renewed Focus

by Becky French

This year's appointment of Bill Bryson as National President of CPRE has seen a renewed focus on the problem of litter in our countryside. Bill absolutely hates rubbish and as such it has now become a major national campaign for the next 3 years. Over the last few months Bill and CPRE have been talking to various politicians, policymakers, educators and others to get a better understanding of what is needed to attack the problem of litter and fly-tipping really effectively.

"Our aim is to create a powerful national campaign which will make litter a thing of the past in Britain. Other countries have virtually eliminated litter from their landscapes. There is no reason why we can't do as much here." Bill Bryson.

So with the help of a newly appointed 'litter team' CPRE has worked with Bill to produce a litter campaign. You'll find the outcomes covered on our Stop the Drop pages and at the national campaign website. Here's one example...

Cleanup UK

CPRE has joined forces with Cleanup UK to create an online litter network. Launched in April this year, the site aims to bring together individuals and groups who collect litter across England, helping to co-coordinate localised cleanup efforts.
