Water Focus Group Update August 2019

The River Itchen Challenge - The River Itchen Challenge -

Update from Moya Grove, leader of the Water focus group.

It is raining (you noticed!) and this has swelled the flows on the river Test. The poor river was getting so low that it triggered Southern Water's (SW's) drought permit application. Here in the West of the S.W area, the water company takes much of our drinking water from the Test at Testwood. A drought order means a hosepipe ban and we don’t like those. It also means that more water from the river can be taken than would normally be allowed so that SW can meet its legal obligations to supply. So, it's over to us to prevent the poor river from being over abstracted and us from having a hosepipe ban. The simplest way to save LOTS is NOT to flush the LOO every time. Some suggestions from SW to help you save water and save the River Test.
