Following two years of pressure led by CPRE, energy regulator Ofgem has announced that it will allow up to £500 million to be spent on burying existing National Grid electricity pylons and transmission lines in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A section of existing electricity transmission line near the village of Hale in the NFNP has been shortlisted as part of the project as it has the most significant landscape and visual impact. CPRE Hampshire is working with the New Forest National Park Authority (NFNPA) to publicise local stakeholder involvement with the National Grid's 'Visual Impact Provision' project for the shortlisted line. Further information on the project and the study in the New Forest is available from the National Grid website.
