Tues 10th May
Combined Visit to a Recycling Facility and a Composting Site
A combined guided visit to Alton's Material Recycling Facility and Little Busy Warren Copse Composting site near Basingstoke on 12th May 2011 from 10am-12.30.
The tour will start at Alton's MRF with refreshments and a presentation on Hampshire's waste management. Visitors will then travel to Bushywarren's near Basingstoke for a tour of the composting site. The MRFs handle household recyclable waste like paper, card and plastic from kerbside collection which now covers 96% of Hampshire's households. The facility at Alton is Veolia's most technically advanced plant of its kind in the country and the tour will give you the chance to learn more about how the items are sorted and recycled.
Since 1996 Veolia have been composting green waste on a commercial scale and since 2002 has produced 465,000 tones of green waste. The tour will give you a chance to learn more about the commercial process of composting.
The combined tour costs £13 for members and £15 non-members (including a small donation to CPRE Hampshire).
