Who we are
SHUV stands for 'South Hampshire's Unheard Voice'. What we need to do SHUV is acting as an information forum to enable as many community groups and environmental organisations as possible to put in their own, local response to the Examination in Public of the South East Plan. At a strategic level, we are also preparing a joint response, which will represent SHUV members across the whole South Hampshire Sub Region. We will demand to be heard! Our principles SEERA has allocated 80,000 houses to South Hampshire (14% of the entire South East allocation). We do not believe that is necessary or sustainable. SHUV members all agree on general principles behind development in South Hampshire, i.e.
See our action plan on our home page. Background to the Examination in Public The South East Plan is a development plan covering homes and business parks in the South East. It was drawn up by SEERA, with the South Hampshire part being submitted by the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH)*. It was put out to consultation, amended and is now with the Government Office of the South East (GOSE), which has arranged for an Examination in Public. A Panel of planning inspectors will scrutinise the plan and attendance at the panel will be by invitation only. The plan recommends two major areas of building - Strategic Development Areas (SDA). One would be located north of Fareham and the other near Hedge End. Other houses would be built in and around existing urban areas. * The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) comprises East Hampshire District Council, Eastleigh Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, Havant Borough Council, New Forest District Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council, Test Valley Borough Council and Winchester City Council. Our Response The Panel of inspectors invited public response to the South East draft plan. The closing date was 23rd June 2006. SHUV organisers prepared a considered response which included detailed references to paragraphs in the South East Plan. Public meetings Some SHUV meetings have been organised so far by local volunteers. (Click here to see posters announcing recently held meetings). We need many more people to organise them across the Sub-Region. A Microsoft Powerpoint presentation used by Caroline Dibden at public meetings is available. Click here to view. Best viewed in Internet Explorer (ignore warning messages and allow ActiveX content for this file). Caroline Dibden, chairman of the Campaign to Protect Rural England's South Hampshire Planning Group and a member of SHUV, is available to help you prepare for your meetings or to speak, should you wish. You can email Caroline directly on caroline.dibden@btinternet.com>. SHUV members have a vast amount of knowledge at their fingertips to support you. Publicity Publicity and communications are essential to the success of SHUV. Please help us by joining the debate and telling us what you think. Email SHUV@lists.riseup.net. SHUV would like to invite members to join us from Parish Councils, Amenity Societies, Community Organisations, Wildlife and Nature Groups, Environmental Groups, District and County Councillors and Members of Parliament - in fact everyone with an interest in responding to the South East Plan. One of our main aims is to achieve a seat at the Panel meeting later this year. If we work together, interdependently, to present a well-organised, joint response representing thousands of individuals across the South Hampshire Sub Region, then we shall gain a chance of getting that seat at the table. Join us by emailing SHUV@lists.riseup.net. Click here to see the list of organisations that have already joined SHUV. This page last updated 10th July 2006 |
