Thank You to Jeremy Warren

An apology and a very belated thankyou…

…to Jeremy Warren, a CPRE volunteer who has very effectively managed the layout and printing of the CPRE newsletter for a number of years. Jeremy handed over the responsibility to the Branch Office last summer, and in the process of taking the work 'in house' I omitted to put a formal thankyou in the Autumn newsletter. I have found out, first hand, just how much work is involved in setting up a Newsletter that is both interesting and readable!

Thank you, Jeremy, for all your hard work. I hope you are enjoying the extra free time you must now have in Spring and Autumn!

Staffing Update

The Branch Office has recently recruited a full time Admin & Media Assistant, Rebecca French, known as Becky. Becky worked for us in a temporary capacity in the latter half of 2005, leaving us to spend time in Sri Lanka & Indonesia doing charity work and general travelling. Now back from her travels, we are delighted to announce that she has joined CPRE Hampshire on a more permanent basis, and will be dealing with county membership, Charitable Trust applications, media work and other varied office duties, as well as helping the Administrator with event management, volunteer support and general enquiries.

Becky can be contacted on 01962 843655, email info@cprehampshire.org.uk

For the past four years, CPRE Hampshire has worked with the University of Winchester to mentor a final year student for six months, agreeing a project for the student to work with. This year, Rhiannon Fisher, a farmer's daughter from Gloucestershire, has been working on a Fly-Tipping project and has produced a 16-page leaflet on the subject. You can read about Rhiannon's work here.

500 Club

We are delighted that this scheme has been greeted with such enthusiasm by our members, we now have 234 numbers sold, and this will generate income of at least £1,500 this year for CPRE Hampshire! Thank you to all those who have joined, but there are still a lot of members who do not subscribe - and this is an appeal to those members to consider signing up to the scheme. We are giving approx 50% of our income as cash prizes each month, and we have been very grateful that some of the prize-winners have chosen to donate their prize money to us, or to re-invest in further shares. However, we are just as pleased to send cheques to those who wish to receive their winnings!

The scheme has been set up as a 500 club, so there are still just over 250 shares available - you can find an application form on the 500 Club page. Just complete it and send in your cheque and we do the rest. It's as simple as that!

The winning numbers in the 3 draws held so far are as follows:

January 1st Prize £60 38 2nd Prize £30 170
February 1st Prize £65 39 2nd prize £35 164
March 1st prize £70 35 2nd Prize £40 9

Postage and Newsletters

We try very hard to keep our postal costs to a minimum, and using email means that we can keep many of our members informed of events that are coming up; we have to make careful decisions on when to do postal mailouts, as a full membership mailing costs over £500.

Producing and distributing our newsletter twice a year costs around £4,000, so a decision has been made to produce an annual newsletter rather than a bi-annual one, thus reducing the cost.

Our website www.cprehampshire.org.uk is regularly updated with details of our campaigns and events, and if we have an email address for you, you will receive information about forthcoming events, but for those of you who do not subscribe to email, please let the office know if you want be on a notification list for future events. The Trustee Board has discussed the possibility of making the Newsletter available as a pdf on the website; however, the majority of our members would require a paper copy posted to them, so this initiative is not deemed to be cost-effective at present.
