Report on 'Sunset Safari' 19th July 2006

On the hottest day of the year so far, a group of 36 people, ranging from 4 years to 80+ years, gathered at Marwell Zoo after closing time to take part in an evening 'walking Safari' around the park enclosure. Led by two Zoo guides, the participants were able to enjoy the animals in this beautiful setting, and see them relaxed in the relative quiet of the day.

The evening temperature was perfect for a stroll, and fortified by light refreshments in the Manor House at the top of the Park, the walkers spent just over 2 hours enjoying the antics of the monkeys and the meerkats, admiring the beautiful giraffes and big cats, and generally appreciating all that the Zoo park has to offer.

One particularly handsome tiger formed a great affection for Mrs Asdell, whilst she drove around the enclosure on her mobility vehicle, following her all the way around the perimeter, lying down whenever Mrs Asdell stopped and uncannily, keeping up with her all the way. The magic of the evening was also very clearly reflected by the grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Le Guiton who dashed around with great excitement and obvious pleasure.

At the end of the evening, most of the group vowed to return for a full day visit at some time, preferably when the weather has cooled down somewhat!

A very successful evening, which also helped to raise funds for the Mid Hants District Group.
