hampshire views 2 Changes are afoot at our Branch office. The Trustees are pleased to announce that Christopher Napier has agreed to take over the role of Branch Chairman, after the untimely death of John Venning. In addition, Pam Mason has retired - 5 years after coming to help us out on a temporary basis! We have appointed a new director, Anthony McEwen, who started mid-May. For more details of these changes and other news read Hampshire Views (Spring/Summer 2010).

Wether ... or Not

CPRE has objected strongly to the proposal for two large turbines proposed for Wether Down, within what will be part of the South Downs national Park. While supportive of renewable energy per se, CPRE believes that the impact on the landscape for this proposal would be highly detrimental to the natural beauty of the designated landscape. It has welcomed recent comments by Energy and Climate minister, Ed Miliband. Latest: This campaign has been successful. The application has been withdrawn.

There was a talk by Peter Waine, Chairman of the national CPRE, on the work of national office. Margaret Paren, CPRE member who has been appointed chairman of the new South Downs National Parks Authority gave a talk entitled 'The South Downs National Park: How it will work and what it will mean for the county of Hampshire'.
